We went with a friend to Dagestan. Was it scary and dangerous for us in Dagestan? Personal experience

Difficult to write text. I would like to be as clear as possible, share my experience and at the same time remain objective. I ll tell you about my experiences, doubts and adventures. And there were a lot of them.

Hello everyone, my name is Alexandra. My friend and I together traveled around Dagestan for a week Hello everyone, my name is Alexandra. My friend and I together traveled to Dagestan for a week

Now that Dagestan is gaining popularity again as a tourist region, you can hear there are many radical statements about what is dangerous in Dagestan.

Of course, there are many more such statements if people find out that we traveled without men, only together.

We moved by car, drove in turns, rent a carWe moved by car, drove in turns, rent a car Were we scared?

If quite frankly, at the very beginning I felt not fear, but a small experience. Traveling with a female company is always exciting for obvious reasons. And going to an unfamiliar republic with a different culture is doubly exciting.

At the same time, I was aware of the fact that they say a lot of things in Dagestan from old memory. Reports and reviews of acquaintances and strangers (on the Internet) said that it is calm in Dagestan.

And not only calmly, but also beautifully And not only calmly, but also beautifully?

Since I set myself the goal of telling myself as frankly as possible, I cannot omit what is spinning in our heads: times women are going, which means that men will pester them.

We were ready for something like this, since we had already rested in Turkey, Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, and Georgia … etc. In general, we have already rested in such countries in which men actively meet new girls.

However, on in fact, everything turned out to be not so scary (or we turned out to be so scary ?). We were really approached to get to know each other, there were also clingy comrades. But not so often. And everyone, in the end, understood that we did not need the company, and we were at odds with the world.

And some the men did a great job of helping us out : they invited us to the family for dinner, showed us the way and gave us a lift. They were all different people. And it was selfless help, a completely different level of communication.

During a trip to Dagestan, my friend and I behaved modestly , tried to be polite and friendly everywhere. We gratefully accepted the help and, in turn, tried to pass on the “baton of good.”

We traveled during Ramadan (Muslim fasting), so we tried not to eat or drink in public during the day. We didn’t swear, litter, or clash. She described angels, but we really were the most decent tourists.

It turns out to incur righteous anger local residents we could not. And that was the worst thing for me … Make a mistake and accidentally offend the owners while you are visiting them. And despite one country, that s how I felt (which, by the way, I m glad).

And if we talk about theft, robbery, aggression, some criminal cases, – we haven't come across anything like this! And from my inner feeling it seemed to me that it is just as safe here as it is somewhere in Moscow.

Although I caught myself thinking that in Dagestan it was easier for me to communicate with strangers than in Moscow. I love my city, but I think there are more crazy people here 🙂

In general, with standard and generally accepted security measures (this is important!) and with respectful behavior (this is even more important!) I would call Dagestan a calm place . I felt more comfortable here than, for example, in Abkhazia.

How would you describe the level of security in Dagestan? Share in the comments.
